Hollywood star Christian Slater is to present the if.comedy awards in Edinburgh this year, organisers have announced.

He will hand over the awrd for the best comedy show on the Fringe, best newcomer and the panel prize for encapsulating the spirit of the festival on August 25.

Slater said: ‘Having made my UK stage debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest in 2004, I am delighted to be returning to Edinburgh to present the Intelligent Finance Comedy Awards.

‘It will be particularly special to be sharing the stage with a fellow Cuckoo, last year’s winner, Phil Nichol.”

The awards shortlist is announced on Wednesday August 22, and a Comedy Cuts special about the awards will be broadcast on ITV2 on Sunday August. 26
