Borat sued
The unnamed students claim the release form they signed agreeing to appear in the movie is invalid because they were drunk at the time.
They claim they were assured them that the filming was for a documentary that would never be shown in America.
They are seeking unspecified damages and demand that distributors Fox pull the movie from theaters.
Their names were not given in Borat, and they did not reveal them in the lawsuit for fear of further humiliation.
The Borat crew apparently found three lads, including the two who are suing, in their University Of South Carolina frat house and took them to a bar to ‘loosen up’ over drinks.
In the finished film, one of the lads complains how ‘minorities have all the power’ while the rest boast about treating women like dirt.
Oliver Taillieu, the lawyer bringing the case, said: ‘If you watch the movie, one of then can barely keep his eyes open. It's pretty obvious to me that these guys did not know what they were getting into.’
One of the three, David Corcoran, previously gave an interview with FHM magazine in which he said: ‘Borat told us he beats women and showed us naked pictures of his sister.’
But later they looked Borat up on the web. ‘My first thought was, “What if my mom finds out?”,’ he said. It’s not known if Corcoran is one of the two suing.
Fox says the lawsuit has no merit.
The case comes after Turkish Internet celebrity Mahir Cagri said he was seeking legal advice after claiming he inspired Sacha Baron Cohen to come up with Borat.
The freelance journalist became an unlikely celebrity over his personal ‘I Kiss You!!!’ website in 1999, seeking friends and featuring bizarre photos of himself playing pingpong and sunbathing in a skimpy bathing suit.
‘The bombshell is going to fall. [Baron Cohen] is making money by using me,’ he said.
