Doing frighteningly well
In the three weeks since their release, Green Wing has sold more than 56,000 copies of series two and the series one and two box set, shifting more than 27,000 copies in the first week alone.
Meanwhile the long-awaited DVD of cult horror spoof Garth Marenghi also exceeded the company’s expectations, with 19,347 sold in the first week and total to date of 32,000.
4DVD says the figures were boosted by well-attended signing sessions in London. Fans queued for four hours at Virgin’s Oxford Street store to meet stars of Green Wing including Stephen Mangan and Julian Rhind-Tutt. And the Garth Marenghi signing in Piccadilly Circus was hailed by Virgin Megastores as one of the biggest ever.
4DVD’s marketing manager Liz Hadley said: ‘With the help of two amazing DVD signings and other creative PR and marketing Green Wing and Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace have punched well above their weight.’
