Gilbert lands radio series

Stand-up Rhod Gilbert has been signed up to host a weekly radio show on BBC Radio Wales.

The former Perrier newcomer nominee will take up his Saturday morning job when he returns from performing at the CapeTown comedy festival at the end of the month.

He said: ‘I’ve been doing stand-up all over the world for the last few years, so it’s nice to come back to Wales,’ said Carmarthen-born Rhod, who says he’s planning to relocate from London base.

‘This is the first time I’ve had my own radio show, and it’s live. But I’m hoping that having done stand-up more than a thousand times I’ll be well prepared for anything that’s thrown at me on air.’

Radio Wales editor Sali Collins said: ‘I think his energy and humour will be a great asset to the station’s line-up.’

Rhod has previously appeared on Radio Wales hosting the Friday night comedy panel show Jest A Minute, which is recorded at The Comedy Store in London.

Gilbert will also be performing a short tour of his 2006 Edinburgh show, Knocking On Heaven’s Door starting next month. Click for dates
