Local hero
Comic Toby Foster has been nominated for the most prestigious prize in BBC local radio.
This is the second time he has been shortlisted for best presenter for his Radio Sheffield morning show, ahead of more than 1,000 other local radio broadcasters.
Also up for the Frank Gillard Award – named after the former war reporter who was instrumental in setting up the BBC’s local radio network – are Radio Northampton’s Bernie Keith and Radio Suffolk’s Nick Pandolfi.
Foster said: ‘This is the first time I’ve been nominated for something where I’m not up against Danny Baker. That’s good, because he’s better than me.’
The comic, who hosts Sheffield’s Last Laugh comedy club and organises the city’s comedy festival, has only been broadcasting for four years and already notched up a prestigious Sony Award nomination.
