Lenny goes local
Lenny Henry is to tour the UK for a new BBC documentary series about regional humour.
And as he travels the country, he’ll also be performing a series of stand-up gigs.
In the programme, Lenny’s Britain, the comic will talk to locals about what defines the distinctive sense of humour of their region.
Writing on his blog, he said: ‘We're going to be hoiking ourselves round the regions investigating local humour, the whys, hows, and whos of it all.
‘We’ll be exploring the idea of a region having an intrinsic sense of humour. We all know about Scousers but what about people from Norwich ? We’re used to the Lancashire accent in comedy but what about Cornish humour… and so on.
“I’m really looking forward to it, I think it's gonna be great.
‘And I’ll be travelling around Britain on a kind of complementary tour, so look out for that.’
Henry also revealed he is working on three hour-long specials for BBC One early next year.
Before then, he is also making a documentary about the life of Richard Pryor, and continues to work on his Comedy Playhouse script, Slings And Arrows, which draws on his experiences as an Open University English student.
In March, Henry recorded a chat and entertainment show pilot for the BBC.
