Given Arthur chance...
Radio 4 has commissioned a second series of Count Arthur Strong’s Radio Show.
The first six episodes, which originally aired on Friday lunchtimes last year, are currently being repeated in the prime 6.30pm comedy slot on Thursdays.
And the show, about the exploits of a senile but arrogant theatrical gent, has been so well-received that the BBC has ordered a second run.
The show will be recorded in the autumn at Brighton’s Komedia club, whose production arm made the series with fellow indie Smooth Operations.
Komedia director Richard Daws said: ‘The response to series one has been phenomenal and it is pleasing that the BBC have faith in character led comedy.’
Count Arthur is the creation of character comic Steve Delaney, and the show’s cast has also included Brighton comedy stalwarts including Dave Mounfield and Perrier best newcomer nominee Joanna Neary.
The first series has also just been released as a triple CD, available for £15 from Strong’s website here.Published: 13 Mar 2006
