Dara O'Briain is to unveil the winners of Britain’s biggest sitcom writing competition in an eight-part BBC Three series.
Almost 5,000 people entered the corporation’s Last Laugh competition, which invited hopefuls to complete sitcom scripts created by established writers.
As well as revealing the finalists, the new series will also celebrate the art of comedy writing, with contributions from the likes of Rik Mayall and Carla Lane.
The first episode, to air on January 21, focuses on Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran, creators of the New Statesman.
Judges will give their opinion on the top four scripts submitted for the last ten minutes of the show Marks and Gran started,Last Quango In Harris.
Later programmes will feature Peep Show creators Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong, Gimme Gimme Gimme’s Jonathan Harvey and Paul Mayhew-Archer, of The Vicar Of Dibley.
The overall winner of The Last Laugh will have their episode made into a pilot for BBC Three.Published: 10 Jan 2006
