Unseen Peter Kay film heads for DVD

A previously unscreened short film starring Peter Kay is to be released on DVD.

In Two Minutes, the comic stars as a hapless getaway driver for an ill-fated robbery on a local pub.

The 22-minute short was made in 1996, and is one of his first screen appearances. It would be two more years before he was nominated for the Perrier award made The Services, the pilot for The Peter Kay Thing for Channel Four, which spawned Phoenix Nights.

It also stars Matthew Dunster and Pearce Quigley as the two would-be robbers and was written by Johanne McAndrew, who went on to create Nice Guy Eddie for Ricky Tomlinson.

The one-off film is being packaged with three episodes of Coronation Street in which the comedian made cameo appearances as brewery drayman Eric Gartside, a would-be Romeo.

The collection, called Peter Kay's Driven To Distraction, is being released by Granada Ventures on October 3, priced £5.99. Click here to buy it

The release is the latest attempt to mine the Kay’s back catalogue for the lucrative DVD market after the runaway successes of his stand-up shows and Phoenix Nights. Live At The Bolton Albert Halls sold a record-breaking 274,000 copies in its first two weeks.
