BBC3 commissions all-girl comedy

Sketch group Live! Girls! have landed a BBC TV series on the back of their Edinburgh festival shows.

BBC Three controller Stuart Murphy has commissioned six half-hour episodes of what is described as a “quirky character comedy, part sketch part narrative”. It will also be called Live! Girls!

The show will be set in Sunderland, and co-produced by independent Celador, the makers of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, with BBC comedy chief Jon Plowman executive producer.

The troupe, comprises performers Sam Battersea and Emma Kilcoyne, who write alongside Emma's twin sister Beth.

Danielle Lux, Celador’s joint managing director, said: “I’m delighted we are continuing to expand our horizons in comedy.”
