Let's rock!
The Office star Mackenzie Crook is developing a comedy set in the rock industry.
He has teamed up with his friend, and fellow 11 O’Clock Show survivor, Iain Lee to work on the project for Five.
The channel is trying to create some comedy kudos. Having already acquired a package of shows from the States, including Friends spin-off Joey, it is now trying to create its own shows.
As part of that aim Five comedy editor Graham Smith has commissioned Crook and Lee to write scripts for the show, which is yet to be titled.
He told MediaGuardian: "It's not about a band and it's not going to be another Spinal Tap.
“It's more behind the scenes in the world of rock, in the deadpan style of The Office and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
"The idea is to highlight the vanity, stupidity and silly money you get in the rock industry.”
Mr Smith has around 15 projects in development, with the aim of getting two or three shows on air next year, although on a considerably smaller budget than comparable shows on other channels.
The news comes a week after Elton John announced that he was to star in his own music business comedy, also shot in mockumentary style, for America’s ABC network.Published: 16 Nov 2004
