Big Brother for comics returns to US

The TV show dubbed 'Big Brother for comedians' is to return to American TV screens.

Last Comic Standing has been recommissioned by the NBC network, impressed by the ratings it attracted for its first series.

The show, hosted by Jay Mohr (pictured), combines elements of Pop Idol and Big Brother, and was seen by 8.3million Americans this summer.

It starts as a talent search for professional and amateur stand-ups in comedy clubs across the country.

Ten finalists are then chosen to live together in a house, getting tips on their act and competing for the prize: a contract with NBC.

Last year's winner, Dat Phan, has gone from an unknown to a comedy club headliner, has landed a film role and appeared in an episode of The West Wing.

Talent scouts will be starting their hunt for this year's contestants in Los Angeles next week.
