Another fine mess...

Will Frank really play Stan Laurel?

Frank Skinner has been approached to play Stan Laurel on the London stage.

Actors' newspaper The Stage has today reported that the comic will take the role in a new production of Tom McGrath's biographical play Laurel and Hardy next year

But his spokesman denied that anything had been agreed. "We are aware of the project, but there are no plans at present," he told Chortle.

The play is expected to run at Hampstead's New End theatre from February or March next year. Full Monty star Mark Addy, who also appeared as Fred Flintstone in Viva Rock Vegas, has been tipped for the role of Oliver Hardy.

Tom McGrath's play was first performed in 1976 and many productions have toured the country, the most recent being last winter. Producers are hoping this new version will transfer to the West End following its run in Hampstead.

Skinner is no stranger to stage acting, having previously appeared in both Art and Cooking With Elvis in the West End.
