Armstrong 'the new Angus'

Comic in line for quiz show hotseat

Alexander Armstrong has been tipped as the favourite to replace Angus Deayton on Have I Got News For You?

The comic - one half of the double act Armstrong and Miller - was last seen on BBC2's TLC, which has just been cancelled.

Now the 'tall, dapper and charming' comic has been named as Deayton's most likely successor, the Daily Mail's Ephraim Hardcastle column suggests today,

Meanwhile, Deayton himself is reportedly in talks to host a new topical panel game - on rivals ITV1.

The Daily Star says that the presenter, dropped by the BBC following tabloid revelations about his private life, is on the verge of signing a £50,000-a-show deal.

It quotes an ITV source saying: "Clearly the BBC won't be pleased, but a lot of people think they were foolish to let him go in the first place."
