Izzard's Broadway bound

Joe Egg set for New York run

Eddie Izzard is set for a starring role on Broadway.

Plans are under way for the revival of Peter Nichols's play A Day In The Death of Joe Egg to New York - with Izzard again in the starring role.

The comic was a critical hit in the role of Bri, the father of a severely mentally handicapped child, on the London stage earlier this year.

And he is said to be keen to take on the role in the Big Apple.

Ambassador Theatre Group, which staged the show in London's Comedy Theatre, is planning to transfer the show Stateside in the autumn.

Managing director Howard Panter said: "Nothing is signed yet, but Izzard wants to and we want to."

Ambassadors producers are also planning to transfer Doctor Faust to Broadway along with its star, Jude Law. It is currently running at London's Young Vic theatre.

Meanwhile, Izzard attended the premiere of The Cat's Meow in Los Angeles last night. He plays Charlie Chaplain in the film, about a 1924 murder aboard a yacht owned my newspaper tycoon William Randolph Hearst.
