Kerensa takes ITV title

Result of televised stand-up hunt

Paul Kerensa has won ITV's Take The Mike competition for new comics.

The audience and judges voted his routine - which boasts 'live simultaneous equations' - best of the four finalists last night.

His prize includes £1,000, a management deal and a trip to the Montreal Just For Laughs comedy festival.

Runner-up Vicky Frango has also been offered a deal to help develop her quirky character-based stand-up. She also receives £1,000 of holiday vouchers.

Other finalists were Tom Price and Dean Kilby.

They won their heats and a semi-final after receiving tips from top stand-ups such as Omid Djalili and Donna McPhail.

The show, hosted by former Big Breakfast presenter Paul Tonkinson, will be screened on ITV1 in September.
