Boom time for Basil

A 21st century fox sitcom

Basil Brush has become the latest star to land his own sitcom.

The puppet is making his comeback in a 26-part series on the BBC's new children's digital channel CBBC.

Celebrities will make guest cameos in the show, billed as a "modern day sitcom".

It is designed to appeal to CBBC's target six to 13-year-old audience, but is also likely to appeal to viewers nostalgic for the Seventies heyday of the popular puppet.

Mike Heap, chief executive of Entertainment Rights, which owns the character, said: "Basil Brush is making his comeback to a whole new generation of children and parents."

The original Basil Brush, voiced the late Ivan Owen hosted a Saturday teatime show on BBC1 from the late Sixties to 1982.
