Gorman scoops NW comedy title

Dave Gorman has won the comedy section in the Manchester Evening News theatre awards.

Judges said his show, Dave Gorman? - Edinburgh Fringe 2000 at Chortle.co.uk">Are You Dave Gorman? was "a brilliantly silly idea, executed wonderfully well by a uniquely charming comedian".

Gorman is currently performing the show in New York, so the prize was collected by his flatmate, Danny Wallace, who inspired the show by betting Dave couldn't meet 54 of his namesakes.

Other shows shortlisted for the award included The League Of Gentlemen, Puppetry of the Penis and Bewilderness by The Right Size - the duo of Sean Foley and Hamish McColl currently enjoying West End success with their Morcambe and Wise tribute The Play What I Wrote.

The awards, in their 20th year, were handed out by Cold Feet star John Thompson.
