Susie McCabe has been given the all-clear to perform her Edinburgh Fringe show after she was rushed to hospital for an emergency heart procedure.

The 44-year-old Glaswegian comic fell ill just before a show in Bristol on Friday and called an ambulance, which took her to the city's Royal Infirmary.

She cancelled a gig in her hometown tonight, but told fans she was on the mend.

McCabe, who won this year's Billy Connolly Spirit Of Glasgow Award, wrote on social media: ‘Thanks everyone for your kind and supportive messages, it really means a lot.

‘Thanks to all the staff at Bristol Royal Infirmary , incredible level of care .

‘I called an ambulance at 9:45 and had been treated and in a Cardiology ICU by 11:45

‘Our NHS is the greatest thing we have and its ours and we pay for it.The standard of treatment I have received has been incredible.

 ‘Imagine if I had died in Bristol????’

But this morning she revealed she was well enough for her Fringe run.

She wrote: 'After a health issue with my heart in Bristol and a couple of nights stay in Bristol Heart Institute I have been given the all clear to do my show at this year's fringe.

'Farewell cigarettes and alcohol hello granola and yoghurt.

'Oh and an incredible performance from Bristol Heart Institute - 5 stars.'

McCabe – who also hosts the Here Comes The Guillotine podcast with Frankie Boyle and Christopher MacArthur-Boyd –  was due to perform a work in progress gig at Camerons pub in Glasgow this afternoon. The venue posted: 'We are sorry to announce that due to health reasons Susie McCabe's WIP at Camerons this Sunday is cancelled. We're absolutely gutted but obviously, health comes first.'

McCabe's Fringe show, The Merchant of Menace, will open at Assembly George Square from Wednesday.
