Pride of Lyons
Former Survivor contestant Zoe Lyons has won this year’s Funny Women hunt for new comedy talent.
The former actress took home the £2,000 first prize at the Comedy Store last night, and will now perform at showcase event at the Edinburgh Festival.
Brighton-based Zoe, who began on the comedy circuit 11 months ago, said: ‘I’m pleased as punch, totally over the moon. I can’t deny it I really, really wanted to win.’
Another actress, Janice Phayre, took second place and £500; with surreal act Anna Crilly coming in third.
Among the finalists was Lindzi Germain, who had never tried stand-up before the competition but was tempted to try after an appeal for acts in Liverpool.
The other finalists were: Bridget Christie, Roisin Conaty, Susan Hanks, Sarah Ledger, sketch duo Live! At The Mausoleum and double act Millie & Tillie.
A spokesman for the contest, which is sponsored by Babycham, said before the final: “The competition was very strong this year in both talent and numbers."
