Is Sarah Kendall's comedy coming back? Frayed not
Sarah Kendall’s comedy Frayed will not be coming back, the stand-up has confirmed.
The Australian comic said she had plans for third series, following the cliffhanger at the end of series two, but it has not been picked up.
After a fan asked her on social media whether the show would return, Kendall replied: ‘I’m afraid not. We will never [know] what happened.
She added: ‘I had planned for S3 a time jump of 5 years. Dan survived that night but left town and Sammy ended up going to jail for the murder. They found the body. Series 3 would begin with her release from jail, Jim picking her up
The 1980s-set series aired on Sky in 2019 and 2021, and co-starred Diane Morgan, Robert Webb, Ben Mingay, Kerry Armstrong.
Kendall played the lead role of Sammy, an apparently affluent British resident with two teenage children who had to return to Australia when her husband died, revealing the family to be bankrupt.
Series one attracted around 150,000 overnight viewers in the UK, and launched with 440,000 when aired on the ABC in Australia. But by the time it ended, the ratings were less than half that down under.
However, it was acclaimed by critics and earned Kendall a Bafta nomination for best female comedy performance in 2020. The show was also twice nominated for best comedy at the Australian equivalent, the AACTA awards.
Kendall’s tweet about the show’s cancellation earlier this month was first spotted by the British Comedy Guide.
