British comics pilot Nigerian TV show
British comics Ola The Comedian and Funmbi Omotayo are set to host a TV stand-up and sketch show – in Nigeria.
A pilot episode of Wetin' Dey – the pidgin English phrase for ‘what’s going on?’ – is to be made in London next month showcasing acts from the UK and Africa.
The only guest so far announced is Nigerian comic and musician Emma Ohmagod.
Both Ola and Omatayo have Nigerian heritage. Ola has appeared on E4’s 8 Out Of 10 Cats and ITV2’s Plebs and written for Radio 4’s The Now Show and The News Quiz; while Omatayo’s TV credits include Channel 4’s Tramadol Nights and TNT Show, and Kojo’s Comedy Funhouse on MTV.
The pilot is produced by the BBC’s programme-making arm, BBC Studios, and will be taped at Television Centre, West London, on September 16. Free tickets are available here.
Producers say that the audience will be a big part of the show, saying: ‘We want you to come to the recording ready to talk to our hosts.’
It is not yet known which Nigerian broadcaster may be interested in the show.
