TV sketch show to highlight Northern Ireland's comedy talent
Some of Northern Ireland’s leading up-and-coming comedians have shot a sketch show to air on the BBC next month.
Belfast comics Shane Todd and Ciarán Bartlett leads the cast of Chancers which will revolve around ‘awkward, and often hilarious situations we all find ourselves in, turning the mundane into the absurd’.
Also taking part in the half-hour show are Diona Doherty, James McKegney, William Thompson, Aaron Butler, Micky Bartlett, Chloe Bartlett, Tommy McCarthy, Sean McAleavy, Ciaran Franco, Heather Anderson, Talal Jomar and Freya Holmes.
BBC Northern Ireland say: ‘From cringe-worthy encounters to moments of pure slapstick, the show will feature sketches on the creation of the horse on day six of the universe; the inevitable outbreak of a Mafia war at the hands of a dodgy go-between; bad life and business coaching, and sketches depicting scenes of comedic modern "torture".’
The broadcaster has been developing comedy talent from the region. Last month, it released a batch of seven comedy shorts, while the next BBC Comedy Conference will come to Belfast in March, on dates yet to be confirmed.
Todd also directs Chancers with Niall Fegam, while Bartlett is the producer for his own company, Fat Panda Media. It airs on BBC Northern Ireland at 10.40pm on December 9.
