Much-travelled Maureen Younger – who has lived in Austria, Germany, France, Spain, Russia and the Ukraine – began performing comedy sketches for a French café theatre group, Meceuil Théâtre de Paris. On her return to the UK, she turned to stand-up, making the final of the 2007 Hackney Empire New Act competition. She is also an actor.

Colour blind?

C4 invites white comic Maureen Younger to an event for black talent

comedyPerhaps Channel 4 is just so woke that they genuinely don’t see colour.

But the broadcaster invited white comedian Maureen Younger to a workshop aimed at back female comics, she has revealed.

The comic believes she was asked to attend the diversity event as she plays many gigs on the black circuit.

Speaking at London private members’ club Soho House, Younger said: ‘Because my name appears a lot on back comedy listings, Channel 4, in its wisdom, invited me to a comedy diversity workshop as one of Britain’s busiest black female comics.

‘I said, "Have you done your research?" They went, "We'll provide lunch."

‘I thought, you know what? A girl’s got to eat. It was actually a really nice lunch…’
