Absolutely sacked
Comedian and accordionist Martin White has been axed as Dave Gorman’s sidekick on his Sunday morning Absolute Radio show.
Gorman tweeted that he was ‘shocked’ at the news – after White himself announced it on Twitter.
White wrote: ‘Fans of quality broadcasting will be pleased to hear that Absolute Radio have sacked me from the DG show. That's showbusiness, folks! Terminated, relieved of duties, dismissed.’
In response to fans’ questions, he added: ‘No reason given, either. All a bit baffling! I think it's just a reshuffle.
‘No reason given - they're entitled to terminate my contract without explanation. C'est la vie.’
It is understood that Gorman’s other sidekick, Danielle Ward, will continue on the show. Ward and White regularly work together on the circuit, including co-hosting Karaoke Circus nights in which comedians perform songs with a band.
White is also known for his accordion-playing appearances in Robin Ince's cult comedy show The Book Club and appearances with his 30-piece band The Mystery Fax Machine Orchestra.
Absolute Radio Absolute Radio said: "Both Absolute Radio and Avalon, the show's producers, would like to thank Martin for his fantastic contribution. With the programme taking an extended break, we together felt the time was right for a freshening up of the show's format ready for its summer run. We wish Martin the best of luck for the future.'
