Jasper Holmes – Original Review

Review by Steve Bennett

Distinctive Holmes, whos's been known to wear stage outfit seems to be made of old newspapers, is a brilliant poet, with a mastery of lyrical delivery and a fine command of his material (though he does owe an acknowledged debt to John Cooper Clarke).

However, he's now starting to tailor his act much more to the demands of a comedy club audience, with a string of puns delivered with a distinctive rhythm, no doubt learnt from his poetry days.

The gags are variable, from the inspired to the hackneyed ('How come there's only one Monopolies Commission?') and the enforced pace doesn't really allow him to get away with weaker material.

He is still developing, though, and there's no reason to suspect he won't crack it soon.
