A former police officer turned magician John Archer was named British Magical Champion of Comedy in 2000. He appeared in Sky's hidden camera series Undercover Magic and was a regular on the CBBC series Help! My Supply Teacher's Magic.
He also appeared on the ITV show Penn & Teller: Fool Us, hosted by Jonathan Ross, in 2011 becoming the first magician on the programme to successfully fool the judges.
But he is probably best known in comedy circles for being Tim Vine's regular support act.

Kojo makes the Britain's Got Talent final
...but at the expense of John Archer
Kojo Anim has made it through to the Britain's Got Talent final.
But he had to see off fellow comedian John Archer in the process.
Singing Chelsea pensioner Colin Thackery won last night’s live semi-final, leaving the judges to pick between the two comedians for the second available place.
First Simon Cowell picked Kojo – which came as little surprise given he gave him his Golden Buzzer pick in the audition.
Amanda Holden then said added: 'I love old school comedy, but tonight, I'm going to go with Kojo', with Alesha Dixon, who has admitted to knowing Kojo for some time, agreeing: 'I genuinely love you both, but the act I want to see in the final is Kojo’.
The comic put his head in is hands in disbelief after it was revealed that he would be taking part in Sunday’s live final on ITV. He then said that he was ‘ready to go’ for the final.
Kojo tweeted this morning: ‘Woke up this morning on cloud 9. Thank you to everyone who voted to get me into the @bgt final this Sunday. Last night was the toughest heat yet. I had fun on stage and can’t wait to prove myself again on the amazing Apollo stage.’
Kojo has previously opened for act ssuch as Kevin Hart and Chris Rock, and runs a London club, Kojo's Comedy Fun House, where Dave Chappelle has roadtested material. The club also had its own spin-off MTV, while in 2005, Kojo also hosted the daily breakfast show on Capital Xtra from 2010 to 2014,
After his performance, in which he successfully picked the numbers on the lottery ticket after firing some funny insults at Cowell, comedy magician John Archer received a standing ovation from both the judges and the audience.
Judge David Walliams called him a ‘superstar’ and Archer said: "This is the best moment I've had in my career.’
Comedy singer Siobhan Phillips will also be taking part in the final,having won the judges’ vote on Tuesday.
