Radio 4 renews Jessica Fostekew’s Sturdy Girls Club

Comic also to appear on Travel Man, and release a stand-up special

Radio 4 has ordered a second series of Jessica Fostekew’s show Sturdy Girls Club.

The first run of four 15-minute episodes, mixing stand-up with interviews with physically strong women, aired in March last year. And the second series will be twice as long.

It can also be revealed that Fostekew is due to appear in the upcoming 13th series of Channel 4's Travel Man alongside Joe Lycett, while her 2022 stand-up hour Wench is to be released as a special later this month.

The show will be available digitally on ‘name your own price’ terms from producers 800 Pound Gorilla Media from January 26, followed by a free release on YouTube from  February 27.

In the show, the Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee describes her mid-life metamorphosis, having left a ten-year relationship and redefined her sexuality and now embracing her new life as a queer mum.

Double Chortle Award winner Fostekew will also be on tour in 2024 with her new show, Mettle.

JoJo Sutherland is also recording a Radio 4 special, based on her autobiographical 2019 show, Riches To Rags. It is being taped at the Monkey Barrel comedy club in Edinburgh on January 16 and scheduled to air in August, British Comedy Guide reports.
