Don Dube – Original Review
Note: This review is from 2002
Review by Steve Bennett
This punkish Candian livewire has a solid stage personality and some decent ideas.
However, Dube (it rhymes with Scooby) often fails to articulate these into strong gags, using strangulated set-ups and muddled punchlines to obscure the point.
And as he's presenting himself as a straightforward observational comic - his stance being, as you'd expect, the foreigner's view of Britain - this is no good thing.
Once he works out a simpler syntax to cut to the heart of the jokes, he could be onto a good thing. But at the moment, though an engaging presence, the big laughs mostly elude him.
