Don Biswas: The Revolution Will Be Disorganised
What would you bring to the revolution? Don Biswas will bring raw honesty, political comedy, and well-timed one-liners.
Biswas provides a multi-faceted hour of laughter, as he swings seamlessly between gags about living with an overbearing Indian mother, comedy and candour about his autism, dyspraxia, and ADHD, and pointed monologues about political issues like the cost-of-living crisis. He easily blends comedy and hard-hitting truths, and the audience is left laughing, but also with a real sense of his passion for a better world.
His revolution is one of a thoughtful and personal nature, inviting us to consider our own values. His tagline is that ‘we have more in common than what divides us’ and he offers a unique and much-needed perspective on our society, through the lens of neurodiversity. He dismantles stereotypes around autism - such as the belief that they lack empathy – and politics while eliciting constant laughter.
Biswas freely admits that the show, and the revolution, will be disorganised, although he still delivered an engaging performance, with self-deprecating humour that only endeared him more. True to his promise he jumps between stories of conspiracy theories and British politics and yet, it works.
He often veers on the edge of controversy before cleverly bringing it back to his typical left-wing comedy, with some dubious comments about the Covid lockdown and vaccines that shift smoothly into well-executed jokes about.something else entirely.
Despite his socialist comedy, his slick one-liners are for everyone. He has a knack for making the audience feel like part of the show, inviting them into his revolution and creating a safe, but also hilarious space, for all those who need one.
Viva la revolution!
