Comic Andrew Mensah joins Fantasy Football League
Stand-up Andrew Mensah has joined the new series of Fantasy Football League – just four years into his comedy career.
The comic’s big break comes after his success with the BT Sport show What I Wore, where he interviews footballers about the kits which mean the most to them.
He will be joining new hosts Matt Lucas and Elis James in the 16-episode revival of Fantasy Football League, overseeing the celebrity league and sharing weekly comedy highlights from the world of football.
Mensah was originally hired at BT Sport as an apprentice and worked his way up to the digital team where he was instrumental in creating and pitching the What I Wore format – doing so well he he was given the opportunity to present the pilot, and then the series.
He has interviewed high-profile footballers including Steven Gerrard; Gareth Bale; Rio Ferdinand; Robin Van Persie and Pep Guardiola, accumulating a total of 10 million views across social media.
Mensah is also regular on London’s up-and-coming comedy circuit, regularly playing venues such as the Top Secret Comedy Club. He won the Cavendish Arms summer competition in 2019.
Some of the guests who will be appearing as guest managers on the series have also been announced, including comics Guz Khan, Russell Howard, Chris McCausland, Doc Brown, Jennifer Saunders and Maisie Adam.
Others include AJ Tracey, Roman Kemp, Sir Mo Farah, Sir Trevor McDonald, Brian Cox, Tom Grennan, Gabby Logan, Sam Quek, Rachel Riley, Jaime Winstone, Sally Lindsay and Lady Leshurr.
The show, made by Avalon, launches on Sky Max and streaming service Now from September 29.
