Empathy Pains discusses male suicide

Kiri Pritchard-McLean has released her last show online in the hope it will raise awareness of men’s mental health issues.

Originally intended to focus on empathy, the show – entitled Empathy Pains –  evolved into an examination of the reasons behind male suicides.

The comic was only able to tour the show for four dates before lockdown, and said she intended to rest it – but in the last 18 months, two men that she knew took their own lives, prompting her to release it online.

A quarter of sales of the show – which was filmed at Aberystwyth Comedy Festival in October. will be donated to mental health charity Pwrpas. It is available here, priced £7 minimum.

She said: ‘It feels weird even charging for it but for context I need to conservatively sell 3,000 copies to break even - which won't happen - but I couldn't not try and get it out into the world after the last few years.’

Pritchard-McLean is currently touring the UK with her new show, Home Truths, which was nominated for a Chortle Award last night.
