...and Mrs Brown's Boys audience rises

The Ghosts  finale was one of the top ten most-watched shows on Christmas Day, outperforming the soaps.

A total of 4.4million viewers tuned in to see the last instalment of the hit BBC comedy as it went out.

It was the 7th most watched show on the day, marginally behind Call The Midwife, on 4.6million, and the much-hyped Doctor Who episode properly introducing Ncuti Gatwa as the Time Lord, on 4.7million.

In contrast, EastEnders – the highest-rated soap - could only muster 3.8million. In its prime, 30million watched the show’s 1986 Christmas Day episode when Den Watts served Angie her divorce papers.

The day’s most-watched show was The King’s Broadcast, with 7.4million.

Mrs Brown’s Boys also made the top 20 (at No 13) with 2.6million, on a par with Coronation Street and up on the 2.2million who watched the 2022 December 25 episode, its lowest ever festive audience.
