Miranda Sings comedian criticised for 'flippant' reaction

Miranda Sings comedian Colleen Ballinger has addressed allegations she ‘emotionally’ groomed young fans – by releasing a bizarre ukulele song branding the claims ‘toxic gossip’.

The performer and YouTube star has for years faced accusations of behaving inappropriately towards her followers, including making sexually suggestive comments in chats.

And last week, Rolling Stone ran a major article with former fans saying they felt ‘bullied, intimidated, and embarrassed’ by their interactions, after she persuaded them to became emotionally invested in her life.

The 36-year-old hit back with a ukulele video on YouTube admitting:  ‘I  used to message my fans – but not in a creepy way, like a lot of you are trying to suggest. It was more of a loser kind of way. I was just trying to be besties with everybody.’

She sang that ‘the only thing I’ve ever groomed is my two Persian cats’ – and  claimed she was the victim of the backlash.

‘Thought you wanted me to take accountability / but that’s not the point of your mob mentality,’ her lyrics went. ‘Your goal is to ruin the life of the person you despise / While you dramatise your lies and monetise their demise.’

She also sang:  ‘There were times in the DMs when I would overshare details of my life, which was really weird of me / I haven't done that for years, you see, 'cos I changed my behaviour and I took accountability.’

Her response triggered a new backlash, with accusations she was being flippant and insincere.

The first person to make claims against Ballinger was  influencer Adam McIntyre, who said she developed an unhealthy friendship with him when he was 13 – and that he ‘bullied and manipulated’ some of her young fans into doing free work.

He also alleged that a teenager she would ask him if he was a virgin and what his favourite position was and also sent him lingerie as a joke.

Responding to the new video, McIntyre said: ‘Colleen Ballinger just made a silly little song making fun of accusations of abusing children.

‘As much as Colleen discredited & made fun of me, I'm glad her video did ONE thing, show you all EXACTLY the type of evil woman she is, that a lot of us have experienced over the past few years behind the scenes, the mask has slipped…everyone meet the REAL Colleen Ballinger.’
