Revealed: Britain's best comedy venues of 2018
The Bill Murray has been named the best comedy venue in London in this year's Chortle awards.
The Islington bar, crowdfunded by fans to be a dedicated comedy space, triumphed over more established venues such as the Soho Theatre and the Comedy Store.
Meanwhile, the 99 Club Leicester Square scooped the best club title for the eighth time.
The best club night in the capital is Quantum Leopard at the Nursery Improv Theatre in London Bridge.
In the north, Liverpool's Hot Water Comedy club was named best venue, while XS Malarkey again won the best club. Another familiar winner is the Bright Komedia, again being named best venue in the south
The Norwich Playhouse is a first-time winner, being named best venue in the Midlands and the East.
The results have been announced ahead of tonight's Chortle Award ceremony where the best comedians and shows of the past year will be revealed – as voted by Chortle readers from a shortlist compiled by critics and bookers. The event takes place at PizzaExpress Live in Holborn, which also sponsors the event to promote the regular comedy nights it now hosts in the intimate basement bar.
Here are the full results of the venue awards. Not all categories are awarded if there are insufficient votes in that section.
