Channel 4 orders more Toast
Channel 4 has commissioned a second series of Matt Berry’s Toast of London.
The surreal show – which the star co-wrote with Father Ted co-creator Arthur Mathews – has struggled to find a audience, despite being critically praised. It averages about 400,000 viewers in its 10.40pm Sunday slot.
Andrew Newman, chief executive of producers Objective, told the Guardian: ‘I am totally chuffed they are doing another series, because it has a brilliantly strong flavour and has established a proper cult following.
‘The great thing about Channel 4 comedy is that they back things they believe in editorially.'
The show, about a jobbing actor and voiceover artist, was initially commissioned following a pilot made for Channel 4's 2012 Funny Fortnight series.
Meanwhile, Berry has just finished filming his role in the forthcoming Reeves & Mortimer studio sitcom House Of Fun
