7. Ten internet stars
Miranda Sings
Making a new video twice weekly, this quintuple-threat 'singing/dancing/acting/modeling/magician' has racked up more than 330 films since her 2008 debut. The creation of American comedian, Colleen Ballinger, Miranda has plenty of ego, but not the talent to match.Venue150@EICC, 18:30, August 13th to 17th only.
One Man Breaking Bad
The YouTube video entitled Homeless Man Does Breaking Bad Impressions For Food has attracted more than 1.3million viewers. After it went viral it emerged that the star of the clip was actually Los Angeles actor and voiceover man Miles Allen. His One Man Breaking Bad was a hit at Melbourne earlier this year, and it now heads to the Fringe. The Famous Spiegeltent, 19:00, August 1 to 11; then at the Stand 3 and 19:40 and 00:00
The Dark Room
One of the most inventive uses of YouTube, Australian comic John Robertson devised this brilliantly infuriating take on the 'choose your own adventure' books, where escape from the inky venue is nigh-on impossible. And the live show, with Robertson's intimidating narrator up close and personal, is even more entertaining. Underbelly Cowgate 20:40. Incidentally, there's also a less evil online version called The White Room.
Yes
Mawaan Rizwan claims more than 19million YouTube views with such videos as Top 45 Ghetto English Names, and Shit Pakistani Mums Say. However filming himself tweaking in public for the internet nearly got him arrested, as he describes in his half of this two-hander with Seda Yildiz. Cowgatehead, 13:15 daily, and Laughing Horse @ The Counting House 15:30, Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from August 4.
Neel Kolhatkar
This 19-year-old made an impact a year ago with his video Australia In 2 Minutes, which went viral and racked up more than 1million views in three days (and now stands at 2.7million) and won him 170,000 YouTube subscribers. He's now translating online success offline, with runs at the Melbourne and Sydney comedy festivals – and now this Edinburgh debut. Assembly Hall 20:15
Queens Of Pop
I think this is one where we have to let the video speak for itself. Electric Circus, 23:00, August 11 to 15 only
Damien Slash
Damien Slash – real name Daniel Barker – describes himself as a 'YouTube sensation' too, although his most successful video on there has a relatively modest 70,000 views. However, he is prolific, maintaining an impressive output showcasing his character work and talents as an impressionist.Cowgatehead, 20:45
Axis Of Awesome
This antipodean trio's 4 Chords song has just topped 50million views on YouTube. And riding another hot internet topic, last year's Rage Of Thrones, has racked up another 2million. Both feature in their current show Viva La Vida Loca Las Vegas. Gilded Balloon, 21:00
Bec Hill
Bec Hill's delightful low-tech animations, including collaborations with Jay Foreman (below) and Phil Nichol, haven't made it to viral status – although they deserve to. She's also been known to incorporate similar techniques into her stand-up shows. Gilded Balloon. 17:30
Devvo
Self-proclaimed dole queue hero Devvo has posted virtually nothing on YouTube this year, save Kickstarter plea for a book he wants to write. But David Firth's alter-ego was once prolific online, and even if he has been eclipsed by the similar Lee Nelson, he's returning to the fringe with his Deal Or No Dealer game show. Heroes @ Bob & Miss Behave's Bookshop, 18:40.
