How about we move the Fringe to March?

Adam Flood on the best and worst of the festival

Adam Flood is at the Edinburgh Fringe performing his show Adam Flood: Back of the Spoon at Monkey Barrel at the Trona at 10.05pm.  Here he shares what he can't get enough of at the festival, his most embarrassing Edinburgh experience and the worst thing about the Fringe. Apart from the cost of accommodation, obviously…

Edinburgh binge

I like to set myself experiments each year. What happens if I eat zero fruit or veg for the month. What goes on if I go to the top of Arthur’s Seat, not once, but every day.

This year I’m experimenting with two special shows called Late Night Comedy Rave – a live electronic music set alongside appearances from festival-favourite stand-up  comedians like Ivo Graham, Ania Magliano, Paddy Young, Ed Night, Alison Spittle and more.

This isn't my main show but it's a real experiment for me and I can't way to see how it goes down but my guess is it's going to give me less scurvy than previous experiments. It’s at Monkey Barrel at 11.55pm on the 11th and 18th.

Edinburgh cringe

It’s all a bit cringe isn’t it. ‘Oh look at me’ = cringe.

I mean I don’t have a problem with that. We must embrace our cringe to unlock our true potential. A diet of no-cringe is like the Atkin Diet, you may feel strong but you probably are really messed up on the inside.

My first few Fringes were nearly all cringe - performing to only one person who didn’t really speak English, not being allowed in industry bars then sneaking in then getting incredibly pissed because I was excited, then getting thrown out, flyering big names like Frank Skinner thinking he might come while he eats a hot dog with his family…

And now it’s less cringe - I had a sold-out run last year, with little strife and to be honest I should grow up and degrade myself more to feel cringe and be free.

Edinburgh whinge

It’s such a waste of a summer! How about we put it in March then we can all use August to get tanned and live a life of joy in the sun. You’d probably get less sad bits in shows…
