Radio 4 commissions a new Ashley Blaker stand-up series
Radio 4 has ordered a new four-part stand-up show from Ashley Blaker, inspired by how his autism and ADHD make him obsess about his interests.
Hyperfixation – which will air in the 6.30pm slot in summer 2025 – will offer a comic delve into professional wrestling, 17th Century history, Orthodox Judaism and tattoos.
Blaker is himself an Orthodox Jew, which he has previously discussed in Radio 4 stand-up specials – while his last show, 6.5 Children, about raising a large family including three kids with special needs, ran for two series,
He said: ‘I am absolutely delighted to be bringing a new series to Radio 4 and very appreciative of the network’s trust in me. I am looking forward to sharing some of my many passions with listeners. Thankfully, I have had so many hyperfixations, this series could run for years.’
Ashley Blaker’s Hyperfixations is being produced by Steve Doherty through his Llandudno-based company Giddy Goat.
He said: ‘I’ve known Ashley for a long time and have always been amazed by his endless capacity to become fixated with stories, characters ... almost anything. He’s one of the funniest people I know and I can’t wait till he spins his fascinations into jokes.’
Blaker was only diagnosed with autism and ADHD last year, and says the news 'entirely shaped’ his past.
