So close! Comic pipped in council elections
Comedian Angie McEvoy narrowly missed out on becoming a councillor in yesterday’s elections.
The stand-up had stood for Labour in the Southgate ward of Enfield Council in North London.
But, after two recounts, it was revealed that she lost out by six votes.
McEvoy polled 1,803 – six fewer than fellow Labour colleague Derek Levy and Tory Stephanos Ioannou. Both were elected alongside Labour’s Charith Gunawardena, who attracted 1,896 votes.
She wrote on Facebook: ‘If my comedy chums are wondering how this feels, it feels like every death you have ever had happening at the same time.’
