Joe Lycett, the Virgin Queen

Comic to attend the Baftas as Elizabeth I after losing a bet

comedyJoe Lycett is to attend the Baftas dressed as Queen Elizabeth I after losing a bet.

The comic had wagered that his aunties could not attract 100,000 Instagram followers within a week – vowing to dress as the Virgin Queen at next Sunday’s awards bash if they succeeded.

The pair – Margaret and Pauline – even set up their own rival show on channel4.com to boost their profile, and Margaret also went on Scott Mills’ Radio 2 programme to drum up support.

It all worked and they now have 156,000 followers.

‘Obviously, they fucking went and did it,’ Lycett posted on X, along with a video of him calling his stylist Krishan to ask if he could source a suitable outfit.

‘I’m not sure how easy it is going to be to find a Queen Elizabeth I outfit for someone who’s over 6ft,’ he told him.
