Show type: Edinburgh Fringe 2013
Most mothers take it easy once their offspring grow up, but Maxine Jones has taken to the stage as a stand-up comedian, to their mortification. ‘One of them said, “Is it revenge?” Which at least shows they’re aware of all the grief they’ve given me,’ says Maxine.
Maxine settled in Dublin in 1990, one of the first immigrants, and in 1996, when divorce was legalized, one of the first divorcees. Adjusting to life in Ireland, which was more different than she’d expected, is one of the themes of her show, Embarrassing Mother.
Only two years on the stand-up scene, Maxine has received good reviews and has featured on Woman’s Hour.
