Clyde West – Original Review
Note: This review is from 2007
The room's always full of laughter when Clyde's on stage. Sadly, most of it comes from him. A loud suit, odd haircut and infectious personality are not enough to hide what is, for the most part, a dated and lazy routine.... "I had a wank in the car the other day. I won't be doing that again. The cab driver was furious."
Well, seven years on and he’s changed his wardrobe and haircut, but not one iota of his act. Only these days, it is that much more tired and dated than it was before, and his over-the-top delivery even more desperate.
He tries to give his dreary material the hard sell, trying way too hard to convince us these old-school one-liners are worth hearing. And yes, those exaggerated, false chuckles at his own gags are still there, hiding the near-silence of the audience. He’s canned laughter in human form – and the use-by date has long expired.
