Andrew Murrell – Original Review
Note: This review is from 2004
Andrew Murrell has a great physique.
Odd way to start a comedy review, I know. But looking buff does seem to be the most important thing to this easy-going act, performing as he does in sleeveless shirts and boasting about his snake-thin waist in the guise of 'material'.
Of course, you might not share Murrell's fascination with his body, so this part of his set will leave you cold. But then, so will much of the rest of it.
It's hard to pinpoint quite why he's so dull. He has an energy and likeability to his performance, but it can't counter the tired feeling that envelops his material, whether it be about getting blow-jobs or women on diets.
There are about two genuinely funny jokes in his ten-minute routine, making laugh-a-minute seem like a far-off dream. Yet this tedious, woolly stuff does get an inexplicably enthusiastic response from some quarters, while others sit in bemused stony-faced silence. No guessing which camp Chortle fell into.
