Chris Gilbert – Original Review
Note: This review is from 2003
Chris Gilbert is a classy operator - a keen, confident performer with his best material as sharp as his suits.
He might not have been around all that long, but he's certainly among the top bracket of his peers, with a highly-polished 20 minutes already under his belt.
His strength comes from being technically assured, ploughing into his subjects with a near-irresistible force and intelligently structuring his routines so solidly that they become bombproof.
His best sections are almost masterclasses in extracting every last drop of humour from a gag, as he rants passionately about, say, Oil of Olay or the perils of spinach soup.
They are seemingly mundane subjects but it's almost universally pulled off with panache, a keen observational eye, and an attention to detail that's hard to fault.
