Alan Glover – Original Review
Note: This review is from 2002
This laid-back Aussie dispenses his gentle words of wit in a laconic riff, epitomising a lazy, sultry style of delivery.
It's not ideal for every situation, but if the audience is willing to kick back and relax without the need for rat-a-tat gags, then Glover fits the bill.
Not that he can't deal with rowdier rooms - despite the easy-going manner, he has a withering way with hecklers - it's just that these are not really his vibe.
The punchlines, when the do amble along, are perhaps a bit of a mixed bag - from the sublimely clever to the 'was it really worth the wait?'
But his is always an enjoyable set - if unlikely to set the world alight - thanks to that relaxed amiability.
