Trev and Simon's Circus Of Evil
Note: This review is from 2001
The sweethearts of Saturday morning telly make a leap into grown-up comedy with this show, if you believe their hype.
But really this pun-laden pantomime-style mugging is the same old act - just with a bit of swearing (and a prostethic penis) thrown in.
And while this sort of spirited malarkey may be diverting enough for a show aimed at kids, it all seems a little on the slight side for the adult world.
The premise is that the lads use the power of black magic (cue predictable chocolate gag) to summon up evil characters from the past, thus giving them the chance to raid the fancy-dress box and arse around a bit.
And if you're not a fan, this silly behaviour, which isn't a tenth as amusing as they think it is, can become pretty wearing, pretty quickly.
The jokes are the weakest you've seen this side of a Christmas cracker, with puns which even the Chuckle Brothers would reject as too corny. ("Go to hell." "Go to Hull?" or "It was 1459 - or just before 3pm" being the typical standard.)
If this is an adult show, then why is it so juvenile?
But you can't help but admire the pair's spirit - and the hilarious Rasputin get-up at the end is worth two stars on its own, making a grand total of, err two stars.
