Seann Walsh: I died in front of the King

...but Charles's reaction won the comic's respect

comedySeann Walsh has admitted he has had a soft spot for the King – ever since he bombed in front of him at the Royal Variety Performance.

The comic said he respected Charles for not trying to sugar-coat his on-stage death during their encounter in the line-up after the 2013 show.

He told the Always Be Comedy podcast: ‘I died in front of Prince Charles  and had to meet him afterwards in the line-up

‘I'm thinking, "Oh, God, Prince Charles is going to have to go, "Well done", and I'm going to have to go "Thank you" – and you both you both know that I ate shit, but you're having to pretend.

‘But actually, what happened is he got to me. And he leant in and said, "Don't worry about that lot. Bunch of toffs".

‘It was amazing that Prince  Charles had acknowledged my death. And I and it really made me laugh. So I've always got soft spot for Prince Charles, because I much prefer that, someone being straight with you.’

He also spoke about how he found solace in his return to stand-up after being pilloried in the tabloids after  he was pictured kissing his married Strictly Come Dancing partner Katya Jones, while he was in a relationship with comic actress Rebecca Humphries.

Walsh discussed the fallout in a special called Kiss, which he released on YouTube for free, to a warm reception.

He told the podcast the reaction to the show ‘genuinely made me feel good about myself for the first time since all of that shit kicked off.

‘It's the first time in so long that something has happened for me that I made happen myself. No [company] wanted to buy it. No one would go anywhere near me. And then for it to go down so well it's just  been amazing..'
