Chris McCausland to deliver C4's Christmas message

Callling for an end to discrimination against disabled people

Chris McCausland will deliver this year’s s alternative Christmas message on Channel 4.

The comic landed the high-profile slot after becoming the first blind person to win Strictly Come Dancing, and will use it to call for an end to discrimination against disabled people.

He will tell viewers that disabled people are ‘often some of the most resilient, creative and determined people you will ever likely meet’

And he will use a metaphor about his love for mince pies, joking: ‘I will never discriminate against any sort of mince pie, all of them are equal to me and will no doubt meet the same undignified end as I try and fit it all in my mouth in one go.’

The stand-up will appeal for more resources for the government’s access to work scheme, helping people with disabilities back to employment, which is straining under a huge backlog.

Channel 4 began its alternative to the monarch’s speech in 1993, with gay icon Quentin Crisp. It has previously been delivered by the likes of Ali G, Adam Hills, whistleblower  Edward Snowden, a deepfake Queen, and, last year, Stephen Fry speaking out against antisemitism.

McCausland’s alternative Christmas message will air on Channel 4 at 4.50pm on Christmas Day.

He resumes his stand-up tour, Yonks, next month, with dates running right through to May 2026.
