Kath and Kim reunite
Australian sitcom duo Kath and Kim are returning to mark their 20th anniversary.
Jane Turner and Gina Riley have reunited to the two-part special, Kath & Kim: Our Effluent Life, in Melbourne.
It promises ‘never-before seen moments and appearances from some familiar faces and very special guests’ including co-stars Magda Szubanski and Glenn Robbins.
Executive producer Rick McKenna said: ‘It’s fascinating and delightful to see audiences around the world still loving Kath & Kim after 20 years. It was great fun getting the team back together, plenty of laughs all around, which we look forward to sharing very soon.’
Kath & Kim: Our Effluent Life will air on Australia’s Channel Seven later this year.
The broadcaster’s chief content officer for entertainment programming, Angus Ross, added: ‘Since I was a young lad, I’ve admired the elegance and poise of Kath Day-Knight – and her clowning glory. In fact, it’s safe to say she was my first crush.
‘From high-couture to yoga, Kath and Kim have had an immeasurable impact on the world. While I still find it difficult to look Kath in the eyes without blushing, it is an honour to be able to reunite them with their adoring fans.’
The sitcom ran for three seasons on state broadcaster ABC from 2002 to 2004, then picked up by Seven for a final series three years later. The opening episode of that season was the most watched episode of television in Australian history at the time, peaking at 2.7million viewers.
It aired on BBC Two in the UK, and is currently available on Netflix.
